GI Classifications

  • Vins de Table: table wines
  • Vins de Pays: are country wines that are defined by labeled by the regions that they come from, for example Bourgogne or Loire
  • Vins d’Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC):
  • Also called Appellation d’ Origine Protégée (AOP)
  • the AOC is the top category that regulates wine region boundaries, grape varieties, and wine producing practices throughout France. However, the specific regulations differ from region to region.
  • “Cru” means growth in French
